SDO10465 - A map of the tythings of Pokesdown, Iford, Tuckton and Week, Christchurch Borough, Bure and Street in the County of Southampton 1796

Malmesbury estate map dated 1796 covering the area from Highcliffe in the east to Southborne in the west. It includes Christchurch, Wick, Tuckton, Iford, Street (Purewell), Stanpit, Mudeford, Bure, Somerford, Hubburne, Nea and Highcliffe. Very good quality showing individual buildings, field boundaries and roads. Also has some interesting geomorphological information when compared to modern maps of the Stour and Christchurch Harbour. Possibly a pre-enclosure map, although there are no open fileds depicted on it. It certainly predates the Christchurch enclosure act (?1802). The field boundaries depicted on it seem to follow the same alignments and may follow those of a possible prehistoric co-axial field system.
