Abstract/Summary
A pamphlet exploring the evidence, architectural and documentary, for surviving remains of the Saxon church of the Holy Trinity, Christchurch.
The pamphlet concludes that part of the Priory Church north transept retains elements of the original Saxon church, as does the north crypt.
The architect Cockain goes further and suggests that the ground plan of both transepts and the crossing are Saxon in origin.
They also discuss a photograph taken from the Priory Church tower in 1992, which appears to show a crop mark in the churchyard. This is interpreted as the possible Saxon Royal hall mentioned in the Anglo Saxon Chronicle for 900 AD.
