Abstract/Summary

A desk-based assessment carried out in March 1995 confirmed that the area of the island had significant archaeological potential. An evaluation in July 1995, comprising two machine-dug trenches of 10m x 1.5m each, was carried out on the site of a proposed flood bank. The evaluation revealed peat and alluvial deposits, together with an undated (but pre-modern) ditch. Both desk-based assessment and evaluation were funded by the National Rivers Authority.
