'Although Vere Oliver's list is headed 'List of Tessellated Pavements in the County of Dorset" & Lyme Regis appears in the index, the entry reads: "Lyme Regis: In this area there is evidence of Roman occupation at Burton Bradstock, Chideock, Charmouth, Cobb Road in Lyme & Ware (Letter from Dr Wyatt Wingrave of 4th Oct 1924)".'

‘According to Dr Cooper (b), a Roman hypocaust was said by the former owner of 'Belmont' to have been found over 60 years perviously when the stables of the house were built (around ST 33779205). No Roman remains had been found by Dr Cooper during his occupancy of about 50 years, nor were any seen during field investigation. Dr. Wingrave is deceased.’
