Full Description
Higher Headlands Quarry, marked on the second edition OS map. (1) No quarry here in 1863 but already an ‘old quarry’ by 1889. (2) Named as Higher Headlands Quarry in 1900 (3) and extended south by 1927. (4) Extended to east but disused by 1959. (5) A good example of a Portland quarry, showing great depth, an extremely narrow gullet and a high bank of waste blocks. Zig-zag effect shows how use has been made of jointing. (6)
