Full Description
Site of stone shipping pier or quay recorded in 1745 as ‘Old Pier at present useless being destroy’d by the Sea’ (1). A New Pier was built by 1765 (2), recorded on a plan of 1770 as 'Mr Gilbert's Pier Commonly known by Folly.' (3). Named as ‘New or Folly Pier’ in 1800 (4) and Folly Pier on most maps until at least 1901. (5)
