Monument record MDO8551 - Iron Age occupation material, Romney Road, Ensbury Park, Bournemouth

Iron Age occupation material including pottery, daub and loomweights was discovered during the digging of a trench for a new water main in 1935.

An Iron Age site discovered during water main trenching by the Bournemouth Gas and Water Company in Romney Road, Ensbury Park, in July 1935. Calkin visited the site and collected some finds including Early Iron Age pottery, baked clay loomweights , burnt daub, hammerstones and lumps of ironstone. Some of the finds had been burnt. The pottery included bead rim bowls, jars and a large storage jar. <5>
