Summary

An oval enclosure bounded by a ditch, visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. The site is considered to be later prehistoric in date and was digitally recorded during the Dorset Upper Cern and Piddle AIM Project.

Full Description

An undated enclosure at SY 75209860, now visible only as a crop mark on air photographs, lies across the parish boundary with Dewlish, at the head of a small valley. It is about 5 acres in area, roughly circular, and bounded by a ditch about 5ft across. No entrances or internal features are visible. It is probably Iron Age in date though a large concentration of Roman pottery has been found 300 yds due E (SY 79 NE 42). There is no demonstrable relationship between the enclosure and adjacent 'Celtic' fields. <1>

The enclosure is approximately 120m across and is considered to be later prehistoric in date. It was digitally recorded during the Dorset Upper Cern and Piddle AIM Project. <3-4>

It is about 5 acres in area, roughly circular, and bounded by a ditch about 5 ft. across. No entrances or internal features are visible. It is probably Iron Age in date though a large concentration of Roman pottery has been found 300 yds. due E. (see Dewlish (10)). There is no demonstrable relationship between the enclosure and the adjacent 'Celtic' fields (Group 45).’
