Full Description

B (SY 9186 9801) and C (SY 9177 9804) are two flat topped mounds, average 25.0m. diameter, 0.5m. high, situated on a south eastern slope and in ornamental pasture. The surrounding ground is slightly uneven. Two possible bowl barrows.<1>

The four features are correctly described in Auth.3 By the way in which the slopes of 'B' 'C' and 'D' merge into the surrounding slopes they are probably natural. 'A' is almost certainly the feature referred to in Auth. 1 though badly mutilated the abrupt junction of its slopes with the surrounding slopes makes the mound appear artificial. In view of the proximity of 'B' 'C' & 'D' however, 'A' too may be natural. One possible Bowl Barrow and three probable natural features. <2>

Not ploughed. 'A' and 'E' in woodland, the other probable barrows are in arable. 'A', 'B', 'C' and 'E' surveyed and 'D' resurveyed at 1:2500 on MSD.

SY 91869801. A probable bowl (?) barrow, diameter 25.0 metres approximately, height 0.6 metres. Ploughed. No visible ditch. <3>

Traces of a possible associated ring ditch are visible on air photographs taken July 25th 2001. They appear to define an elongated oval shape aligned n-s and measuring 27 metres by 16 metres. However, the cropmarks are quite indistinct in this area. <2>

A possible Bronze Age bowl barrow on Furze Hill, Morden, is visible as a sub-circular soilmark and earthwork approximately 20m in diameter on aerial photographs <4-6> and current Environment Agency lidar imagery <7>. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
