Full Description
Earthworks of part of an embanked Iron Age/Roman field system visible on the eastern end of Rowden Hill at ST 6540 0100. The remains of a number of rectilinear fields can be seen seen on on aerial photographs taken in 2015 as part of the Historic England Reconnaissance Recording programme. <1>
The features are visible as soilmarks on 1969 aerial photographs and as earthworks on Environment Agency lidar imagery [4, 5]. The field system probably continues to the north within Cerne Abbas Deer Park, recorded under MDO43092 and MDO48409. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
