Full Description
Shallow linear feature of unknown date.
<1> Bateman C, 1994, A31 Sturt Lane to Red Post and A35 Stinsford to Cuckoo Lane, road improvements, Dorset. Archaeological Evaluation (Unpublished document). SDO12371.
‘2.2.4 Three shallow linear features were defined within Trench 8, all cutting the natural chalk and sealed by the modern ploughsoil horizon (Fig 4). Two features … were of the same width and depth and appeared parallel within the confines of the evaluation trench. Both features contained a homogeneous chalky clay fill … but produced not artefactual evidence.
2.2.5 The third linear feature … revealed within Trench 8 was on a different alignment … and was of a much smaller dimension. The fill … produced no artefactual material.
3.2 Conclusion
3.2.2 … Of greatest potential interest is the group of linear features encountered at the White Lane bridleway site. Although heavily truncated and undated, and therefore of low quality, the proximity of these features to a Bronze Age barrow is of interest.’
