Summary

Bronze Age bowl barrow on Smacam Down, recorded in 1952 as being about 36 feet in diameter and 2 and a half feet high. The feature is visible on Environment Agency lidar imagery and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.

Full Description

(SY 65969947) A bowl barrow. 36ft diameter, 2.75ft high, situated about 60 yds NE of Smacam Down settlement (SY 69 NE 11). (1)

A bush covered bowl barrowed with many flints exposed. Diameter 12.0m, height 0.7m. No ditch. (2)

A tree and grass covered bowl barrow which now measures 13.0m in diameter and 0.9m in height. A ditch is intimated by a broad hand of soft ground, averaging 2.4m wide and 0.1m deep, surrounding the barrow. (See GP).
