Summary

Four pits found in 1991 during archaeological work in advance of gravel extraction. No evidence to date the pits was found, but they were close to pits dated to the Bronze Age.

‘STOUR VALLEY GRAVELS PROJECT 1991: A further 3.5ha of soils were stripped prior to gravel extraction. This was conducted under the constant archaeological supervision and with the cooperation of the minerals operator Drinkwater Sabey Ltd. Observed subsoil features were Bronze Age, Romano-British and undated. … Two pits (SZ04539742 and 04549742) contained Bronze Age pottery and flintwork. A further four pits were associated by proximity but were otherwise undated.'
