Full Description
Some traces of medieval activity or occupation were found during an evaluation excavation of land off Hinchcliffe Road, Hamworthy in 1978. The evidence consisted of two pits of 13th-15th century date (one of which appeared to have been reused as a soakaway), several post holes and a gully. None of these features were fully excavated and the precise nature and date of the activity is unclear.
SY996907. Three trial trenches were excavated to determine the extent of Roman occupation at Hamworthy: Trench 1 (SY99619079) 12.0m long by 4.0m wide. Two C13th/C15th ditches. Trench 2 (SY99649075) No features. Trench 3 (SY99699069) 27.0m long by 2.0m. Two C13th/C15th pits,a gully and other undated features suggest medieval occupation. <1>
