Summary

Bowl barrow, one of a line of four barrows in the Canford Heath Barrow Group. A narrow trench is dug into the mound, perhaps the result of First World War military activity. The barrow is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery and was digitally plotted using these sources by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

Bowl barrow with mound 13.0 m in diameter and 1.67 m high. A narrow trench 1.3m. deep extends from the SE side to the centre of the mouth. This trench may be of military nature, probably dating to First World War activity. (2)

The barrow is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (3 and 4). From these sources the feature appears to comprise a sub-circular mound around 11m across with a possible partial ditch on its west side. This varies in width up to 1.5m across (4).

The location of the barrow on current Lidar imagery is SW 02302 95438; 17m SE of given NGR.

The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
