Monument record MDO6750 - Bowl barrow, Canford Heath Barrow Group, Poole

Bowl barrow, one of a line of four barrows in the Canford Heath Barrow Group. It has a small trench across the top, perhaps the result of First World War military activity. The barrow is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery and was digitally plotted using these sources by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Bowl barrow with mound 19.0 m in diameter and 1.7 m high. There is a small trench 1.0m. deep in the top of the barrow. This trench may be of military nature, probably dating to First World War activity. (2)

The barrow is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (3 and 4). From these sources the feature appears to comprise a slightly irregular mound around 12m across with a possible slight truncation of its south side. A sub-circular hollow 3.7m in diameter is visible set into the top of the mound on its west side (4). The location of the barrow on current Lidar imagery is at SW 02279 95438 - 15m to SE of given NGR.

The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
