Full Description

Possible bowl barrow at ST 67710478, 12 paces in diameter and 2ft high. <1>

There is no trace of a barrow at the grid reference given by Grinsell but at ST 67720481, there is an irregular, elongated grass-covered mound set on a slope. The mound, possibly a barrow, is mutilated. It is 10.0m in diameter NW-SE and 13.0m NE-SW. The south-east side has probably been dug into. <2>

There is no evidence of Grinsell's barrow; subsequent ploughing has erased the possible barrow at ST 67720481, recorded in 1955. The area is currently under pasture. <3>

The feature is visible as a low sub-circular 7m in diameter mound with a 0.5m wide outer ditch on a 1948 aerial photograph and possibly as a more degraded sub-oval mound on 2009 Google Earth imagery. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project. The feature is not apparent on current lidar imagery. <5, 6, 7>
