Monument record MDO561 - Bowl barrow, Buckland Newton

Please read our .

Summary

One of two bowl barrows on the crest of Ridge Hill. The mound of this monument is now elongated and reduced in size by ploughing but was formerly around eight metres in diameter and about 0.5m high. The mound is encircled by a ditch about two metres wide, which has become infilled over the years. The feature is visible as a low sub-circular mound on a 1948 aerial photograph and possibly as a more degraded sub-oval mound on Environment Agency lidar imagery and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
