Full Description
Part of the former mill leat and mill pond for Over Compton Corn Mill (MDO43788) are visible as faint earthworks on 2022 composite DTM lidar. The southern section of the former mill leat is also visible as a parchmark on 2024 Google Earth satellite imagery (EA 2022; GE 2024). The features are shown on the OS 1: 25 inch Epoch 1 map, published in 1887, and could be medieval to post-medieval in origin (OS 1887). The mill also appears on the OS 1" to a mile Old Series, dated between 1798-1878 (OS 1811?), where the mill is shown on an island with the mill leat running around its east side. The mill pond might, then, be a later modification of an earlier feature.
