Summary

An archaeological evaluation in 2019 in connection with the proposed development of the site revealed two large pits of Middle to Late Iron Age date interpreted as likely to be on the fringes of a settlement nearby to the south east. The filling of one of the pits contained small quantities of slag and crucible fragments, suggesting small-scale industrial activity. A rotary millstone of Purbeck stone was also found, indicating food processing activity on or in the vicinity of the site.
