Summary

A semi-circular fenced enclosure is visible on the northwest side of Blandford Camp on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is within an area of First and Second World War earthworks probably used for military training and may be a barbed wire entanglement used for training purposes. A similar semi-circular enclosure (MDO5008) to the north is visible on the same 1940s aerial photographs, along with a larger sub-oval enclosure of similar character to the east near Telegraph Clump (MDO44897). The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

Site 15 a possible enclosure visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. Comments in the report describe the enclosure as 'Recorded on Dorset County Museum 1947 AP Frame nos. 4065A and 4066A as earthwork. No visible surface remains.' and '5.4 There is no pre-existing record of prehistoric settlements within the study area. Site 15, noted on aerial photographs may, however, related to an enclosure of this type, but an assessment of date or function is not possible at this stage.' {1}
