Monument record MDO49116 - Medieval occupation, Trinity Lane, Wareham

Summary

An archaeological evaluation by AC archaeology in 2008 revealed evidence of medieval occupation, including a wall and surfaces. A rubbish pit contained sherds of pottery of 12th to 13th-century date, with slag and cattle horn cores, suggesting that metal working and possibly tanning may have taking place behind buildings on Trinity Lane. Sloping deposits in one of the archaeological trenches (Trench 2) suggested that they were situated on top of a large feature or depression of possible medieval date. This may be associated with Wareham Castle but no clear evidence of this was found during the evaluation.
