Full Description

A rectilinear ditched enclosure, a curvilinear ditched enclosure, several additional ditched linear features and a concentration of possible pits, are visible to the north of Forston Higher Farm, Charminster, as cropmarks on aerial photographs [1]. The rectilinear enclosure is 27m by 30m with breaks, possibly entrances, in the northeast and southwest corners. The curvilinear enclosure is just over 50m to the south and comprises an irregular enclosure up to 31m by up to 34m, with breaks on the southwest and northwest sides. The features are associated with additional linear and curvilinear ditches and there appears to be an extensive area of possible pits around both enclosures and extending northwards. The features could potentially be later prehistoric in origin, perhaps of Iron Age to Roman date. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
