Summary

Areas of possible medieval ridge and furrow cultivation interspersed by several spaced out rectilinear banks and lynchets to the west of Godmanstone, are visible as earthworks on Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features are possibly part of a cohesive medieval field system but might include earlier features of potentially Iron Age-Romano-British origin, perhaps associated with field system (MDO1743). They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.

Full Description

Areas of possible medieval ridge and furrow cultivation interspersed by several spaced out rectilinear banks and lynchets to the west of Godmanstone, are visible as earthworks on Environment Agency lidar imagery [1]. The features are possibly part of a cohesive medieval field system but might include earlier features of potentially Iron Age-Romano-British origin, perhaps associated with field system (MDO1743). The features are located adjacent to an an area of medieval strip lynchets recorded under MDO1218 and the two might be associated. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
