Full Description

Banked features to the east of Smacam Down, Cerne Abbas, are visible as earthworks on Environment Agency lidar imagery [1]. They are considered to be field boundaries, possibly of medieval date, but they may alternatively be of later prehistoric origin. Their character is quite wide and spread compared to those within a later prehistoric field system to the west (MDO716) but this might be due to their being within subsequently ploughed fields. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
