Monument record MDO48416 - Post medieval water meadow, Cerne Abbas, Nether Cerne, Godmanstone

A post medieval water meadow to the south of Cerne Abbas is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery. The feature extends near continuously for over 3.5km and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.

A post medieval water meadow to the south of Cerne Abbas is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The water meadow extends for over 1300m and comprises a series of linear banks and ditches that interlink with a sluice shown on the OS 1st Edition map and the River Cerne [3]. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.

The water meadow continues south for a further 2.4km south through the parishes of Cerne Abbas and Nether Cerne and into Godmanstone. It is visible on aerial photographs and lidar imagery and mapping of the feature was extended during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project. <2, 4-6>
