Full Description
The remains of a later prehistoric field system on Dickley Hill, Cerne Abbas, are visible as earthworks on Environment Agency lidar imagery [1]. The field system might be Iron Age to Roman in origin. At around ST 65790 100329 they intermix with features from a later prehistoric settlement and associated fields system of small squarish fields (MDO720), distinctively different in character from the wider prehistoric field pattern, although some of this might be the result of repeated ploughing. Defining the precise relationship and potential chronology of these relative sets of features is not straightforward from aerial sources alone. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
