Summary

An area of parallel banked lynchets in a field to the west of Cerne Abbas, adjacent to an area of possible ridged and ditched cultivation, are faintly visible as earthworks on Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features are considered to possibly be medieval strip lynchets and ridge and furrow, possibly part of a medieval strip field system. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.

Full Description

An area of parallel banked lynchets in a field to the west of Cerne Abbas, adjacent to an area of possible ridged and ditched cultivation, are faintly visible as earthworks on Environment Agency lidar imagery [1]. The features are considered to possibly be medieval strip lynchets and ridge and furrow, possibly part of a medieval strip field system. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
