Summary

Several parallel and closely set banked lynchets in a field to the south Cerne Abbas are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are considered to possibly be strip lynchets or possibly ridge and furrow of medieval origin. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.

Full Description

Several parallel and closely set banked lynchets in a field to the south Cerne Abbas are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. The features are considered to possibly be strip lynchets or possibly ridge and furrow of medieval origin. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project. The features are no longer visible being under development.
