Full Description
A possible rectilinear ditched enclosure and fragments of adjacent linear ditches on Kiddle's Bottom to the west of Piddletrenthide are visible as cropmarks on a 1995 aerial photograph [1]. The features comprise a slightly irregular rectilinear enclosure, 38m by 26m, perhaps with a short-L-shaped entrance at its northeast corner. Additional fragments of linear ditches outside the enclosure are also visible in the same field and possibly conintuing into the field to the north, beyond a lane, although these are less certain. The enclosure might be a feature of potentially Iron Age to Roman origin. The linear cropmarks have no discernable pattern but do broadly align north-south and might be sections of field boundaries and/or trackways of contemporary or later origin. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
