Summary

A sub-circular mound with external ditch to the south of Henley, Buckland Newton, is visible as an earthwork on current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The feature is of uncertain origin but could perhaps be a Bronze Age round barrow, although a later origin is also possible. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.

Full Description

A sub-circular mound with external ditch to the south of Henley, Buckland Newton, is visible as an earthwork on current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1]. The feature comprises a slightly sub-oval 21m by 20m mound with a 3m wide outer ditch, which peters out in visibility on the northwest side where a trackway passes by. The feature is of uncertain origin but could perhaps be a Bronze Age round barrow, although a later origin is also possible. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.
