Summary

Banked curvilinear features to the southwest of Henley, Buckland Newton, are visible as earthworks on Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features are considered to possibly be field boundaries of medieval origin. A deep ditched linear feature that follows the edge of a historic field boundary shown on the OS 1st Edition map might be part of a medieval hollow way. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.

Full Description

Banked curvilinear features to the southwest of Henley, Buckland Newton, are visible as earthworks on Environment Agency lidar imagery [1]. The features comprise closely spaced parallel curvilinear banks that form narrow strips within a historic field. They are considered to possibly be field boundaries of medieval origin. A further deep ditched linear feature that follows the edge of a historic field boundary shown on the OS 1st Edition map and joins a historic trackway to the north might be part of a medieval hollow way. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.
