Summary

Ditched rectilinear features to the southeast of Up Cerne are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs. The features are associated with a series of sluices recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and are considered likely to be part of a post medieval water meadow. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.

Full Description

Ditched rectilinear features to the southeast of Up Cerne are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs [1, 2, 3]. The features are associated with a series of sluices recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and are considered likely to be part of a post medieval water meadow. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.

The features are no longer visible, the area being a series of ponds visible on Next Perspectives APGB imagery.
