Full Description
A concentration of sub circular hollow features in a field to the south of Holcombe Wood, Cerne Abbas, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. Some of the features are recorded on the OS 1st Edition map as old gravel pits [3. A group of chalk poits are also recorded close by to the west (MDO48132) and whether all the features in this field are also gravel pits or alternatively include some chalk pits is not certain. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.
