Full Description
A concentration of sub circular hollow features and areas of disturbed ground on Black Hill, Cerne Abbas, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and on Environment Agency lidar imagery [1-4]. The features are considered likely to be post medieval chalk pits, although it is possible that areas of disturbed ground towards the northeastern side of Black Hill might relate to earlier, potentially Neolithic, flint extraction. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.
