Full Description
Cropmarks of a possible Neolithic long barrow at SY 7847 9638, visible at the edge of a field on Lord's Down, south of Milborne Wood. It appears as an incomplete rectangular enclosure defined by broad ditches, aligned NE-SW. The SW (short) side is visible, but the NE part and end are cut by the current field boundary and cannot be traced into the adjacent field to the east. It measures at least 30m long and c.12-15m wide. The remains of a number of Bronze Age round barrows are recorded in this and adjacent fields. This site was seen on aerial photographs taken in 2015 as part of the Historic England Reconnaissance Recording programme. <1>
The site is visible as two parallel ditches up to 31m long and set 5.5m apart, they were visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs and digitally recorded during the Dorset Upper Cern and Piddle AIM Project. <3>
