Full Description

SY 682 960 (FCE) A rapid examination of air photography suggests the presence of a possible rectilinear enclosure, of unknown date, visible as a cropmark on the valley side, c.700m south of Forston Higher Farm. A possible rectangular enclosure is attached to its northeast corner. <1>

The feature is visible as a partial rectilinear cropmark on aerial photographs. It comprises a slightly trapezoidal ditched enclosure approximately 74m long and between 56m and 76m wide. The west side is broken and might be the site of an entrance. A smaller possible rectilinear enclosure sits within the northwest corner of the feature. The ditched enclosure potentially conforms in part with a rectilinear arrangement of linear banks visible on current Environment Agency, that appears to be part of a wider later prehistoric field system. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
