Full Description

4 Haimes Lane Shaftesbury. L 17. Gd ref ST 8635923159 (1976).
An investigation was carried out on the South side of the house, adjacent to the garden wall, where large pieces of Greensand stone had been seen prior to concrete being laid for a driveway to the garage. A section of (horizontally) curving wall was discovered, 50 cm in width, running approximatesly North-East/South-West, curving at the S/W portion towards a Southerly direction and disappearing under a garden wall. The N/W end of the section, which was just over 2 metres in length, pointed towards Haimes Lane at a right angle.
Excavation was carried out on both sides of the wall to a depth of 75 cm. Inside the curve the 'natural' soil layer was located at 60cm, externally or garden side the 'top soil' continued. Some pot sherds and clay pipes were discovered circa early 18th Century.
