Full Description

An oval ring ditch probably a Bronze Age barrow seen as a cropmark on 2007 aerial photography. (SY 8297 9911).

With its unusual oval shape and darker ditches on the south west and south east sides it is not clear whether this cropmark is a barrow ditch or some other form of enclosure. It is however located on Deverel Down, an area with a high frequency of round barrows. <1>

The site was digitally recorded during the Dorset Upper Cern and Piddle AIM Project. The site coincides with a low hollow on lidar imagery <3>; the 2007 cropmark is therefore probably a reverse cropmark associated with a post medieval extractive pit. A second smaller pit lies 40m to the south west.
