Summary

Earthwork remains of an Iron Age or Roman field system. Field boundaries of prehistoric or later date are visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and cropmarks on aerial photographs in fields surrounding Frogmore Farm, Milborne St Andrew. They extend to the north into Milton Abbas and were digitally recorded during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM Project. They cover an area of over 52 hectares and form part of a wider system of fields.

(Centred SY 793990) Field system visible on air photographs. <1>

A field system of Iron Age/Romano-British type is centred at SY 79259915. The low banks and lynchets, now under grass, average 0.3 metre high. Centred at SY 79309953 is an Iron Age/Romano-British field system of long parallel, almost Medieval, type lynchets which have been spread and reduced by ploughing but average 1.0 metre high. <2>

The area of about 24ha., described in 1955, has been halved by the ploughing out of the southern part around Lawn Barn. The system is now centred at SY 79309935 with the northern half at SY 79309954 with parallel lynchets being more prominent than the low fields around SY 79249920. <3>
