Full Description

Anglo Saxon Sceat found to the End of Hod Hill:

a) ST 8631 1050 - a sceat found by a metal-detector user has been identified as belonging to the `London-derived' group. Obverse: a man with two crosses. Reverse: cross crosslet over plain cross. Weight 0.8 g

A sceat (ST 8631010505) found by a metal-detector user has been identified by Miss M. Archibald as belonging to the 'London-derived' group: obv. Man with two crosses, rev. cross crosslet over plain cross, weight 0.80 g = 12.3 gr. Miss Archibald writes that the coin is a die-duplicate of one found on excavations at Stone-by-Faversham, Kent, now in the British Museum (BM 1971-4-3-1), published in Antiq. Journ. XLIX (1969), 290-2). The metal of both coins is apparently base and they belong to the late phase of the sceatta issues in the second quarter of the 8th century.

It was found by Kenneth Reginald Farnham.
