Full Description
ST447004. Rectangular features SE and NE of Brimbury Farm cover circa 6 acres in a N-S combe and may be the remains of Celtic fields or susequent closes-banks. <1>
Historic banked and ditched field boundaries to the northeast of Brimley Farm, Stoke Abbott, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s <2> and 1970s <3>. The banks and ditches may represent the remains of a possible late prehistoric field system, although a later origin is also possible. The ditched linears are broadly parallel and closely spaced. Those on the south side of the road may partly lie within a retaining bank. The site remains partially visible on the latest Google Earth imagery <4>. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
