Summary

The remains of a possible late prehistoric or Roman field system to the north of Waddon Hill, Stoke Abbott, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s and 1970s. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

Full Description

ST 447017. On the North slopes of Waddon Hill, and now ploughed out were several well-preserved small scarps of Celtic field. <1>

The remains of a possible late prehistoric or Roman field system to the north of Waddon Hill, Stoke Abbott, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s <2> and 1970s <3>. Roman tesserae and a section of possible walling are recorded towards the western end of the site (MDO2534). The site is particularly visible on an aerial photograph taken in 1971 <3> and is still partially visible on the latest Google Earth imagery <4>. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
