Listed Building record MDO39092 - Purcombe Farmhouse, Batts Lane, Marshwood

A farmhouse built in the 16th century with later additions and alterations. The walls of the building are rubble with new brick facing work and brick and rubble buttresses, and it has a thatched roof with a brick chimney stack. One end of the building, and under the same roof, is a stable. It is a cross-passage house with a timber cruck roof. Other surviving features of the interior are reported to include plank-and-muntin partitions, chamfered beams, and a fireplace.

‘The following monuments, unless otherwise described, are of the 17th century and of two storeys; the walls are of rubble and the roofs, where old, are thatched. Several of the buildings have exposed ceiling-beams and original fireplaces. … (9) Purcombe (Plate 43), house 170 yards S.W. of (8), retains an original muntin and plank partition and two doorways with four-centred heads.’
