Description

SY 40 NW MARSHWOOD BATTS LANE 6/14 Purcombe Farmhouse 4.12.51 GV II Farmhouse. C16 and later. Rubble walls with new brick facing-work. Heavy brick and rubble buttresses. Thatch roof with hips to left and right. Brick stack just left of centre on ridge. Plan: stack backing onto central cross-passage. Stable under main roof at right hand. 1 1/2 storeys. Five windows: C20 wooden and metal casements. Plank front door with C20 brick porch and pitched slate roof. Plank stable door, with one brick jamb and one wooden jamb. Interior: flagstones in passage. Wide plank-and-muntin partition on right hand side of cross-passage. Tudor-arch doorway through to right, C16. Deep-chamfered beam with simple filleted stops. Fireplace with chamfered wooden lintel backing on to cross-passage. Full-cruck-framed construction, jointed crucks. Back wall is detached from back of cruck post by C. 4 inches.
