Summary

A medieval or post medieval pillow mound is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs to the north of Coneys Castle hillfort, the name of which could indicate a long history of rabbit farming on the hilltop. This monument consists of an earthwork mound surrounded by an outer ditch. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

Full Description

A medieval or post medieval pillow mound is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs to the north of Coneys Castle hillfort (1-3). It comprises an earthwork mound 29m by 5m, oriented roughly east-west and surrounded by an outer ditch. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

The mound is overlain by a post medieval field boundary which is also visible as a narrow earthwork bank and is marked on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map. <4>
