Monument record MDO3810 - Medieval settlement remains, Fifehead Magdalen

A pipeline laid through the hamlet in 1985 combined with extensive field walking provided evidence of a polyfocal settlement, the main being around Manor Farm (ST775211) and the church (ST782216). The pottery indicates occupation from the 12th to the 16th centuries. Earthworks and hut platforms were located to the East of Manor Farm along the pipeline. <1>

'Wessex Water Authority Reinforcing Main, Kington Magna - Marnhull. Observations on this pipe-line, took place from March to October 1985. Evidence of medieval and early post-medieval settlement at Fifehead Magdalen (ST77462125), borne out by air photograph RAF/CAP/2038:1312*, has shown likely building foundations associated with pottery sherds, dating from the 12th to 16th centuries. Further field work in the parish is being carried out, and a full report will follow.'
