Summary

Three undated small shallow parallel ditches found on Compton Down in Trench 31 of the evaluation of the route of the Corfe Mullen to Salisbury Water Transfer Scheme in 2012 are probably cultivation marks. The record for this monument has been created with support from Wessex Water.

Full Description

Three undated parallel narrow shallow ditches (31002, 31004, 31006) were found within Trench 31 during the evaluation of the proposed route of the Corfe Mullen to Salisbury Water Transfer Scheme in 2012. These features each had a single fill and no finds were recovered. They were aligned parallel to several plough scars and are likely to represent cultivation features. [1]

Three parallel north-west/south-east orientated shallow ditches, 31002, 31004 and 31006 were located centrally within Trench 31 and were aligned parallel to several plough scars. They each contained a single fill 31003, 31005 and 31007 respectively from which no finds were recovered. These features did not correlate with any geophysical anomalies and are likely to represent cultivation features.
