Monument record MDO37409 - Undated pit or ditch 67002, Corfe Mullen to Salisbury Water Transfer Scheme Evaluation Trench 67, Pimperne

An undated pit or ditch was found on Pimperne Down in Trench 67 of the evaluation of the proposed route of the Corfe Mullen to Salisbury Water Transfer Scheme in 2012. The record for this monument has been created with support from Wessex Water.

A cut feature (67002), aligned roughly north-south, was found in Evaluation Trench 67 during the investigation of the proposed route of the Corfe Mullen to Salisbury Water Transfer Scheme in 2012. It had a V-shaped profile with three fills derived from natural weathering and silting.No finds or dating evidence was recovered. It is unclear whether this is a pit or a ditch. Its profile seems to suggest a linear feature but it appears to correspond to a discrete positive geophysical anomaly. [1][2]

North/south orientated pit/ditch 67002 (Fig. 48, Section 35) was located at the eastern end of Trench 67. This feature corresponded to an anomaly depicted on the geophysical survey. No finds were recovered from the three identified fills, primary fill 67003, secondary fill 67004 and final fill 67005 within 67002, each an accumulation of natural weathering and silting.
