Full Description

Three undated irregular pits (24003, 24008 and 24011) were identified within evaluation Trench 24 of the archaeological evaluation of the Corfe Mullen to Salisbury Water Transfer Scheme route. They correlate to the location of three discrete geophysical anomalies (part of Anomaly 212). These three features all displayed a broadly similar roughly N-S alignment, had irregular sides and bases indicative of probable quarrying activity, and contained either one or two fills derived from gradual silting from which no artefactual evidence was recovered.
